A new take on bicycle security

This photo was taken on Brunswick St, Fitzroy on a Sunday afternoon. The funniest part was the bike had a cheap cable lock on it (but not around the pole).

UPDATE
I walked past the same bike today and ITS STILL THERE one week later. So there you go kids, bike locks are a waste of time. I'm just gonna carry a roll of gaffer tape with me from now on. Cheaper, lighter and it seams safer! :)

Well, that gaffer tape can be pretty hard stuff to shift--could it actually be better than an el cheapo cable lock?

I can see that bike thieves will have to carry another tool. Bolt cutters won't be enough, they'll have to have a stanley knife at well.

I dont think it's unusual for the youth of today to be carrying objects that can cut. Somebody gets cut on the streets somewhere in Melbourne every Friday and Saturday night.

Seems reasonable to me. Maybe the owner forgot the combo to the lock? Or maybe he stole unlocked bike, and then wanted to secure it to keep it from happening again?
